Home Buying Tip: It Doesn’t Have to be Perfect

For bargain hunting homebuyers, especially those buying real estate for the first time, it’s a good idea not to be too fussy.

To secure the lowest possible price, you may need to accept a few shortcomings, says real estate writer and radio host, Ilyce Glink.

By settling for a home that requires a few repairs or minor renovations, it is possible to save yourself a lot of money. Instead of insisting on perfection, it is better to look at the bright side and think about what you can improve.

While you’re looking at the home with a real estate agent, and preferably the owner outloud say things such as “the problem with the sink is going to cost $1000 to fix, the missing/damaged wall will cost a few thousand” - this can allow you to negotiate a better price, based on the cost of things to fix.

This technique can be applied basically anywhere, but is only really useful on bigger purchases - cars and real estate.
